In 1919, David Kakabadze, who left independent Georgia and went to Paris, returned to Soviet Georgia in 1927 and was forced to ward off modernist-avant-garde groups. The artist was mainly working for theater and cinema before, social realism became the only allowed style of art.

To satisfy socialist guideline demands in art, David in his abstract landscape of imereti involved the power plant. Communists did not like that as well, so he was obliged to paint socialist demonstrators under the mountain and in their hands, the portrayals of Lenin, Stalin and Beria.

After Stalin's death, when the new regime proclaimed the fight against the cult of the individualism, the faces of Beria and Stalin were painted on Kakabadze's canvas. The painting was returned to its original face only after years by restoration and renovation in the National Museum.

This historic painting of 1942 has recently left the repository of the Georgian National Museum and has been exhibited at the TBC Gallery for a wide audience. The visitor will have the opportunity to see the attitude of the artist expressed in miniature style to the regime and what the concessions he had to go.

4 works preserved by the National Museum of Georgia: "Meeting in Imereti"; "Imereti War Days", "Industry" and "Ore Processing in Svaneti" become a part of a large-scale retrospective with the help of TBC Insurance at David Kakabadze's 130th anniversary.
